Thereafter, visit the village of Bilad Sayt, a mountain village set in a stunning location. Head to Wadi Ghul, a spectacularly deep canyon in the mountain range, out of which rises Jebel Shams, the highest point in Oman at over 3,000 meters. Jebel Shams, the “Mountain of the Sun,” is home to weavers of heavy woolen rugs in distinctive red, black, and brown geometric designs.

Along the steep and winding road leading to the top of the mountain, you will discover small villages hidden among the rocks, such as Misfat Al Abriyeen.

After breakfast, drive onward to reach Bahla, the ancient walled town famous for its pottery and Bahla Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can then visit Jabrin Castle, possibly the finest castle built in Oman, which was once also used as a university.

Next, drive to Nizwa, the former capital of Oman, and visit Nizwa Fort and Nizwa Souq. Nizwa is definitely a place to explore — its majestic forts and famous silver souq offer beautiful traditional souvenirs. Visit Barkat Al Mawz to see the ancient irrigation system before returning to Nizwa.

In the afternoon, proceed to the Wahiba Sands to witness the sunset over the golden dunes. The 1000 Nights Camp offers visitors the experience of sleeping under a canopy of stars. Accommodation will be arranged in a Sheikh Tent with private bathrooms.
